Accessories

Of course riding a scooter isn't just about the scooter. You need other gear too, some mandatory, some recommended, some optional and some just nice to have.

When you are considering your purchase, make sure that you leave in enough in your budget to cover these extras too, but with our 25% discount on all safety gear when you buy your scooter you'll find your money will go a lot further.

Helmets. The only mandatory extra that you need to have to ride a scooter. All Australian standards approved.

Essentially two types - open-face and full-face - and there are pro's and con's with each. With the chin guard, a full-face offers more protection, however open-face helmets have better visibility and, particularly because of the riding position with scooters, allow you to see your instruments without having to move your head.   Picking the right helmet might be considered more important than picking your scooter, and we'll take the time to make sure you understand the differences and find one that suits you best.

We stock helmets from M2R and Italian manufacturers Nolan, and have a good selection of open and full face models in colours in stock.  We can get helmets for other brands such as Shoei too, so don't be afraid to ask if you don't see something in stock.

Helmets don't last forever, and it's recommended that you replace them within 5 years. If you are in an accident, or even just drop it, replace it immediately. Likewise if the padding or straps are beginning to fray, then its also time for a change. Remember, it's your head that it's protecting - so don't skimp.

Clothing. We sell a range of clothing intended to provide you with protection from the elements, but also accidents. What you need depends on when, where and what you expect to ride. But good gear will make a large deal of difference to your comfort particularly in foul weather, or if you are unfortunate enough to come off.

We are the exclusive WA stockists of Corazzo scooter wear.  This north American brand is taking the scooter world by storm.  Cool jackets, comfortable gloves - we just love them.  Unlike the other gear out there these clothes have been designed specifically for scooter riders but don't compromise your safety, and certainly don't compromise your style.

Top Boxes. One of the great advantages that scooters have over motorbikes is that they have a greater carrying capability. Almost all scooters have enough room under the seat to hold a helmet and many have a handy luggage hook so that you can safely carry a bag or two between your legs. And if that isn't enough, you can buy a topbox to stick on the back!

We are constantly surprised to see great scooters (and motorbikes) spoiled by the addition of a cheap topbox - particularly where the cost differential is minimal!  Most of the brands supply matching topboxes which colour match your machine.

Where they don't we can supply  great quality aftermarket boxes from Givi (see picture), an Italian company, which we think can't be beaten. From 28 litre to 45 litre, there's a box suitable for each size of bike, and is bound to match your needs.

Security. Unfortunately scooters do go walkabout, however unlike the motorbike market where stealing to order is a fact of life, the most scooters are stolen to be joyridden and then are usually unceremoniously dumped. However it doesn't take an awful lot to put off most of these pests.

All scooters have a steering lock. It doesn't take much effort to stick it on, and trying to push a scooter with a steering lock engaged is quite a challenge!

The best forms of deterrent security are something visible and something audible. A cable lock through the front wheel, and preferably attached to something immovable is an excellent start. If you can augment with some kind of alarm, then so much the better.

So what are the options? Well you can fit an alarm to your scooter for about $300, or purchase a cable locks from $45.  But our favourite is a Xena cable lock system (see picture). These little beauts combine a very thick cable with an lock containing a motion alarm, all for $184.90.
